Mobifixx – a great mobile phone repair shop in Nairobi.

Mobifixx at Diamond Plaza, Parklands, Nairobi, Kenya

Its inevitable. At one point or another, you will damage your mobile handset, or it will stop working properly for no apparent reason. That’s of course if it has not yet happened to you, or at least once? Over the last decade or so, I have had a good number of incidents when I either accidentally damaged a mobile phone or it just went on the blink for no good reason. The tricky bit of course was finding a repair shop or “repair guy” that could fix it. On the other hand, even if covered under warranty at the dealers, it was sometimes more practical to simply buy a replacement mobile handset rather than bother fixing the damaged one.

This is what brings me to the point of this blog post. In a country of over 22 million mobile subscribers, its surprising how hard it is to find a decent mobile phone repair shop. I am NOT talking about the sort that just happens to operate around the corner where there is a 50/50 chance they can actually repair your phone – if not make it worse. I am talking about the type who are professional, affordable and most importantly reliable? Yes, these are few and far in between. Therefore, it came as something of a surprise the other day that I encountered a mobile repair shop called “Mobifixx”.

Mobifixx are located at the popular Diamond Plaza mall in Parklands. I happened on them by chance and paid them a visit. I was intrigued to find out if they could fix the cracked screen of my smart phone (courtesy of my over enthusiastic 2 year old son). They not only were able to repair the cracked screen in around 30 minutes, it even looks better than it did when I got the phone. The other bit that was also really great is the price – it was around 50% of the cost I had been quoted by a reputable phone dealer. Yes indeed, Mobifixx will sort out your damaged mobile phone. That’s what they do, and do really well. Give them a call on 0715-321999.

@nitram see the mobile number in the blog post for Mobifixx. I actually had my smartphone and iPad screens fixed there last week so they are still very much doing what they do well! 🙂

Not a bad idea to pay them a visit and see what they are able to do. Reminds me of a shop, actually an office since they are located on the third floor of a building. Uhuru plaza to be exact, in Kisii town. They go by the name FONE CARE CENTER. The chap i talked to seemed knowledgeable in what he was doing, but cited challenges in the industry, especially infiltration by quacks.

Gave my HTC phone to Mobifixx for repairs. They couldn’t manage to fix the issue with the phone and I believe the staff there pocketed original Dr. Dre Beats earphones which were in the phone’s box.

And they’re going to charge me for that …. couldn’t fix the phone and stole accessories that came with it. And they get paid for it!!!!

It seems that the manager at Mobifixx; a gent by the name of Sunil – is only available when accepting orders and payment. When customers have genuine issues with the service provided, he always seems to have ‘travelled’ or ‘away on business’

And the so-called technicians don’t seem capable enough to tie their own shoelaces.

I kid you not, one of the staff was actually picking her nose (quite vigorously) while attending to clients. Bloody amateurs.

whatever you do, DO NOT take the HTC One to mobifixx.

I had an issue with my HTC One M7, they kept it for repairs for over 2 months (HTC doesn’t have a service centre in Kenya and spares are hard to find – but they wouldn’t tell me that – I got the same reply each time I inquired about the progress -‘the technician is working on it’)

Finally they admitted defeat in fixing the issue and returned my phone. The original Dre Breats earphones which had come with the phone were ‘missing’. To add insult to injury, the phone’s software had been downgraded and it gave off a burning smell and overheated when I tried to charge the phone.

Try Muresh Communications – they are also in Diamond Plaza. A much better service.

DO NOT USE MOBIFIXX until one or two bad eggs are moved on!

I, like you, had used them a few times and was very happy with the service.

However yesterday an ugly incident occurred whereby they took the back off an appliance, plugged it in to charge it for 5 minutes and then demanded 2,500/-.

When I refused such an exorbitant sum for such a simple everyday task the situation got very out of hand with me leaving the shop, and the Mobifixx ‘manager’ (a Kenyan) grabbing my wife as ‘hostage’ until I paid. Most unedifying.

I will of course be contacting Sunil the owner of this store as one or two gangster type technicians are ruining the shop’s reputation, and also they never wrote a job card and were obviously about to pocket the Kshs 2500.

They will no doubt post a comment rubbishing everything I have written here (ref ‘John Kelly”s curious comment above in July this year, pretending to be a customer then revealing himself clearly and aggressively to be a member of the Mobifixx team)…but I have witnesses from the neighbouring tailor shops who saw the whole incident and will corroborate my story when Sunil speaks to them.

Nasty business, extortion, demanding money with menaces and hostage-taking. I never expected such a thing when we wondered down to Mobifixx after a pleasant lunch at Diamond Plaza!

Andrew, you should report this incident to the police.
Demanding money is one thing; inappropriately touching your wife calls for serious action. A law suit would be certainly in order.
I can also vouch for one thing; you can call Mr.Sunil and his concern will be laughable.
But by all means take this up with the Mobifixx management and then report to the cops. A good lawyers services would not go amiss.
These guys need to be taught a lesson!!

@Alphan check with Infinix at their customer care centre located at the Bishop Cardinal Otunga Building in Nairobi’s CBD. They fix their phones there although in my experience it can take as long as a month as spares can be erratically available.
